The benefits of reading There are many reasons why people read. In general these reason include enjoyment, educational, career improvement, need, and obligation. At times we are told we have to read for school or work. Other times we just want to sit down with a magazine, comic book, poem, short story, novel, novella, essay, etc to just disconnect from the world we know around us and get into an article, book or story that informs, persuades, or entertains us. There are many benefits that come from reading apart from enjoyment. It is important not to read just because I was told to do so or because I have to. We should always find something to read that I will enjoy and when we are helping others that are not interested as well to read something they will enjoy.
