Why read in a second language?

Why read in a second language? There are many reason why we should read in general, but this is even more important when you are learning a second language. First of all, when you read in a second language you are getting more natural language. This will be even more evident and true as you read books from certain places. You will also get a better idea of the culture from that place because at many times authors introduce cultural aspects of where they live or where they are from in their writing. I highly recomend watching this interesting TED talk from Ann Morgan and how she read a book from every country in a year.  https://www.ted.com/talks/ann_morgan_my_year_reading_a_book_from_every_country_in_the_world If you are already a good reader you can read extensively reading large ammounts of text to get enjoyment from what you are reading from that place. Obtain High Levels in a Second Language by Reading

Obtain High Levels in a Second Language by Reading It is estimated that a second language learner can increase their knowledge and vocabulary in a second language from around 2,000 words to 9,000 by reading or an increase of 450%. Given if the learner reades an average of 5 hours per week it will take them around 2 years and a half to achieve this goal. If the learner wants to r...

The benefits of reading

The benefits of reading There are many reasons why people read. In general these reason include enjoyment, educational, career improvement, need, and obligation. At times we are told we have to read for school or work. Other times we just want to sit down with a magazine, comic book, poem, short story, novel, novella, essay, etc to just disconnect from the world we know around us and get into an article, book or story that informs, persuades, or entertains us. There are many benefits that come from reading apart from enjoyment. It is important not to read just because I was told to do so or because I have to. We should always find something to read that I will enjoy and when we are helping others that are not interested as well to read something they will enjoy. Benefits or reading come in various ares including improved language development, better interaction with others, cultural awareness, and better general educational output. When people read they will improve their understa...

Improve your mental health by reading and being bilingual. It will help people as they progress in life to be consistent readers. There are many benefits to reading in a person’s life including benefits in education and in normal life. To continue, It helps people to read in their native language as well as in a second language because as people read in both languages they have a better understanding of vocabulary, grammatical structure, and can even help people communicate better. This is even more beneficial in a second language because the person is able to improve vocabulary that they did not know and to learn different words that can be used to give different ideas replacing words or ideas that they already know. Furthermore, as people continue to read more and more they are able to understand more complex grammatical structures since they see how these grammar structures can be used for everyday use.
